Romantic Fantasy, Everyday Disappointment: Meditation and Relationships
with Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown

Fri February 15th: 6:45 PM - 9:00 PMSat February 16th: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Price: $200 Program $125 Student/discount $90.00 Deposit

In Room(s): Meditation Hall

There is nothing as delicious as falling in love, and nothing as devastating as falling out of love. When this happens, we have a unique opportunity to to open more fully to our experience and to more complete relationships with others. This requires that we step out of the "pseudo-religion" of romantic love so prevalent in our western culture and engage in the real romance of care for another person. We will explore the romantic expectations of love relationships and how, through meditation practice, we might work more closely with the dynamics of masculine and feminine, independence and intimacy. This is a meditation weekend open to students at all levels of Buddhist meditation practice.

Judith Simmer-Brown has practiced Tibetan Buddhism for over 35 years and is an Acharya (senior dharma teacher) of the Shambhala Buddhist lineage. She is professor of Religious Studies at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Her books are Dakini's Warm Breath: The Feminine Principle in Tibetan Buddhism (Shambhlala, 2001) and Meditation in the Classroom (SUNY, 2010). She has been married to Richard Brown for thirty years, and they have two college-aged children.

We offer a range of pricing so anyone who wants to attend can. Participants are asked to carefully consider the financial health of our non-profit center when choosing how much to pay. Anything over $125 will go to a scholarship fund for those who cannot afford the full fee. BSC member discounts apply. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. For financial aid or work-study, please contact Sandra Ladley at sandraladley@yahoo.com before February 10th.
